The Prodigal Toy 🔵

NEWSLETTER - MARCH 2025

Hello Reader,

My family lives in a bustling South Austin neighborhood increasingly full of strollers and other young families.

Our evening walks are often peppered with friendly faces, impromptu frontyard playdates and “guess who I ran into” synchronicities.

After a recent neighborhood playdate, we arrive home to realize that one of my sons toys - a bright blue bouncy ball, had been left behind.

C’est la vie. These things happen.

I make peace with the fact that we will likely never see that ball again.

But, we then get a message from the mom, graciously offering to bring the forgotten ball by our house their next walk. Such kindness!

...

Later that day, we get an apology-laden message explaining that during the return voyage, the ball accidentally bounced out of the stroller and into a difficult to reach sewer drain.

Once again, c’est la vie.

Two days later, we get a message from another neighborhood mom - on the total other side of the neighborhood. “Isn’t this Wilder’s ball?” Her daughter had found it on the side of the road outside of their house. “I’ll bring it by on our next walk.”

To my sons delight, we arrive home to find ol’ blue waiting for us on the porch.

This chapter of life has felt a little like this story.

Sometimes I’ve felt like the forgotten ball, sometimes like the gutter ball, and many times like the lucky find.

It has felt comically riddled with unforeseen delays, challenges, and apologies.

But ultimately, through community, kindness, and persistence, it has been a season of things returning home.

Now Accepting New Clients

I love this work. I love sharing the tools I have learned; helping my clients navigate their inner world and then watching that ripple out into their external world in remarkable ways. And I also remember feeling SO NERVOUS to begin my inner exploration. It might not be time. But if you are feeling that call - what the Gurdjieff work calls "magnetic center" pulling you towards working on yourself - then I would love to explore with you.

I do Virtual Sessions as well as In-Person, and I also have packages available. Full details are on my website www.josephmach.com.

**RETREAT ANNOUNCEMENT** I am very excited to announce that I will be hosting my first In-Person retreat on May 3 at Kuya Wellness, a day long meditation and parts work retreat "Make Friends With Your Mind." Earlybird tickets are available to my newsletter community before they go on sale to the public in April, so lock in your spot today!

Music Update

Stepping away from making music is giving me some perspective - and as my inner critic continues to soften and shift, I find myself hearing some of these songs with new ears and loving them. Here's one called "The Well" that I self-released during the pandemic. May it quench your thirst.

Art Update

Reader, I have favor to ask of you: I have a series of paintings called "Rainbow Tears" that I showcased during the Austin Studio Tour. Three large paintings and two smaller sculpted pieces. Do you know of any spaces that might be interested in showing these off? Wellness center, therapy space, yoga studio, etc. Send me a message if you have any idea that would be a good fit!

I'm so glad we get to stay connected in this way and I'm grateful that you are in my life. Feel free to share this with anyone in your life, and I would love to hear how you are doing.

NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 2025 Hello Reader, Today I want to share a recent God-wink I experienced. Because walking the spiritual path can sometimes feel discouraging - and for me, acknowledging moments of synchronicity and grace can provide counterweight to the difficult moments. Difficult moments--such as traveling home on a crowded airplane with a toddler after spending 10 days visiting with family. My wife and I are sleep deprived. I feel fried. My patience has already been maxed out multiple...

NEWSLETTER - JULY 2025 Hello Reader, For most of my 20’s and 30’s, my primary occupation and identity was that of musician/songwriter. As such, one part of my mind was always scanning my surroundings for clever phrases or potential song titles. Every once in awhile I would feel a big ol’ lightbulb go off and the idea would nestle itself into my creative psyche. Most of my best songs came about in this way. About 9 months ago, I was reading David Hawkins Power vs. Force, and in one section he...

NEWSLETTER - JUNE 2025 Hello Reader, A phrase I often heard my teacher, Steve Flynn, use was “become a clearing.” He would say it with a deep, expansive resonance. I heard the words, but more importantly, I felt the words. This past week, my family and I spent the week at Ruby Retreats in Wimberley, TX, house-sitting for some dear friends. One of our daily tasks was to take their two pups on long morning walks around the 100-acre property, visiting the cow pasture and the grotto and through...
